GS hustings 1 May, live streaming and ballot info

Dear UCU members

As you may be aware, following the retirement from ill health of UCU General Secretary Sally Hunt there is to be an election for a new General Secretary.

This week you will receive ballot papers.

One of the candidates is an Essex University graduate (!) –Matt Waddup, BA Politics and Sociology 1989, who is currently UCU National Head of Policy and Campaigns.  Another is Dr Jo Grady, who is currently a Senior Lecturer in Employment Relations at Sheffield University and a member of the National Dispute Committee for the USS dispute. The third is Jo McNeill, who is currently the Fair Access in Admissions Manager at Liverpool University, an NEC member, and a branch president.  You can check out their election statements here:  https://www.ucu.org.uk/GS-election.

It is a hugely important vote.  The person we elect will lead the union for the next five years.  They will be responsible for managing 200 UCU staff and a budget of £24M p.a.  On Wednesday 1 May at 6:30 there will be a hustings with all three candidates where you will be able to hear and put questions to them before you vote.  The hustings will be Live Streamed on the web via the link below .  A recording will also be available online after the meeting.  Before the meeting you can email secretary@ucu.cam.ac.uk with questions you would like to see put to the candidates.
