Nominations open for branch roles 2017-18

Nominations are now open for the branch committee, Congress reps and a regional committee rep. This nomination period closes on 30th May (Tues after the bank holiday) 2017

See the following page for details/deadlines: http://essex.web.ucu.org.uk/branch-meetings/

Please get involved and consider being part of your union’s Local Association Committee. Having a committee made up of members from across our branch is essential for our democracy and efficacy and the role is rewarding in its own right.

Pay dispute-WTC action over

Pay dispute update : 15 Nov 2016
Following a national consultative ballot,  UCU members voted not to undertake further industrial action at this time.

However members voted that the offer provided a sufficient basis for the union to begin detailed joint work aimed at tackling the gender pay gap and casualisation.

This means that UCU is now standing down the current work to contract industrial action as well as our call to external examiners to boycott those duties. It does not mean that UCU accepts the imposed 1.1% pay uplift.

So our next step will be to take nationally supported local action to hold  individual employers to account on gender pay and our bid to end precarious employment.

United for Education: 19 Nov

19 November 16 education demo

19 November 2016: United for education

UCU have joined up with our sister union the National Union of Students (NUS) for a mass demonstration in defence of free, accessible and quality further and higher education and to demand an end to privatisation and cuts in universities and colleges. Staff, students and supporters from across the education sector and trade union movement will march in London in what promises to be a huge show of opposition to government policy on post-school education.
